probably circa 1893. Mother of pearl, sawn and silver-plated. Brass handle with silk tassel. Brussels lace.
Stained, minor damage.

Crowned double coat of arms of the Principality of Bulgaria/House of Bourbon in the middle with Bulgarian motto. Length 35.5 cm.

The fan was probably made on the occasion of the wedding of Marie-Louise of Bourbon-Parma to Prince Ferdinand of Bulgaria in 1893: cf. a very similar folding fan in the Bavarian National Museum in Munich (inventory number 87/62), illustrated in Durian-Ress, Saskia, Fächer. Kunst und Mode aus fünf Jahrhunderten, published by the Bavarian National Museum. Munich 1987, catalogue number 95.



Provenance: Marie Louise Princess of Bourbon-Parma (1870-1899), wife of Tsar Ferdinand I of Bulgaria.
