Die kupferrote Glasur gilt häufig als eine der größten Herausforderungen beim Brennen. Das Auftragen der richtigen Dicke der Glasur, die Regulierung der richtigen Temperatur während und nach dem Brennvorgang und die Bestimmung der richtigen Brenndauer waren entscheidend, um satte, leuchtende Rottöne zu erzielen. Die Wiederbelebung des Kupferrots, das während der Ming-Dynastie erfolgreich hergestellt wurde, wird weitgehend Lang Tingji zugeschrieben, der zwischen 1705 und 1712 die offiziellen Brennöfen von Jingdezhen leitete. Es wird angenommen, dass der Begriff "Langyao" weitgehend von seinem Namen abgeleitet ist: siehe N.
