Ferdinand Keller besuchte anfangs das "Lyceum" in Karlsruhe, begleitete aber schon in jungen Jahren seinen Vater und seinen älteren Bruder nach Brasilien, wo beide als Ingenieure für Straßen- und Brückenbau tätig waren. Bis 1862 malte er als Autodidakt die tropischen Landschaften Brasiliens. Ab 1862, nach seiner Rückkehr nach Deutschland, Studium an der Karlsruher Kunstschule, Privatunterricht bei Hans Canon, 1866 Reisen in die Schweiz und nach Frankreich. Seine Reisen führten ihn darüber hinaus nach Rom, Spanien, Italien und England. Die Künstler Johann Wilhelm Schirmer, Anselm Feuerbach und Hans Makart hatten Einfluss auf Kellers Entwicklung. Sein prämierter Entwurf für den Bühnenvorhang des Dresdner Hoftheaters bringt ihm den Namen "Badischer Makart" ein. 1870-1913 Dozent und Professor für Porträt- und Historienmalerei an der Kunstschule in Karlsruhe, deren Direktor er zeitweilig war.
Der Aufenthalt in Brasilien sollte das künstlerische Leben Kellers nachhaltig prägen. Noch sein 1877 ausgestelltes Gemälde "Alexander von Humboldt am Orinoco" spiegelt Licht- und Farbstimmungen wieder, die Ferdinand Keller in Brasilien studieren konnte. Auch die vorliegende Darstellung einer europäischen Quellgrotte, die von zwei jungen Mädchen aufgesucht wird, lässt an die Studien des Künstlers in den Regenwäldern Brasiliens denken.

The information about the auction winners is confidential. The auction winner will receive a direct notification from the auction house responsible with instructions for further action: an invoice for payment and the manner in which the goods will be received.
Each of the auction houses has its own payment policy for the won lots. All auction houses accept bank transfers, most of them accept credit card payments. Shipment of the won lot depends on its size. Small items can be delivered by post. Larger lots are sent by courier. Employees of the auction houses will offer you a wide range to choose from.
