NORTHWEST CHINA, 3RD-2ND MILLENNIUM BC

Each with beveled cutting edge, the group comprises three jade adzes, one of mottled bluish-green color with extensive ivory-buff alteration and yellowish-ochre accretions, with a single perforation drilled from both sides at the butt end; one of white stone almost completely altered to mottled brown color, with a single perforation drilled from one side at the butt end; and one of mottled blackish-green color. The fourth adze is fashioned from a finely polished, fine-grained hardstone of even chocolate-brown color.
