Signed and dated 1885 lower left. Remnants of a label with the inscription "Carl Lampe(?)-Vischer" verso, label with number 193 on the frame. Oil auf panel. 112 x 87 cm. Cradling. Restored. Minor damage. Damage to frame (135 x 112 cm).

Neben Genreszenen und Porträts gibt es im Werk Franz von Defreggers auch einige Landschaften. Besonders in den 1880er Jahren finden sich mehrere Almszenen, die sich von den Gebirgslandschaften seiner Münchener Kollegen doch deutlich unterscheiden: anstatt die Berge und deren Gipfel durch die Lichtstimmung zu romantisieren, reduziert Defregger diese auf ihre Konturen und wirft im matten Licht einen eher beschaulichen Blick auf das Tal.

Bei vorliegendem Gemälde verbindet er diese Landschaft mit dem Porträt eines Malschülers, ausgestattet mit Bleistift und Skizzenbuch. Eine Identifizierung des Dargestellten ist noch ausstehend, auch sind keine weiteren Porträts des Künstlers von seinen Schülern überliefert, wodurch dieses Gemälde eine besondere Stellung im Schaffen Defreggers einnimmt.

The information about the auction winners is confidential. The auction winner will receive a direct notification from the auction house responsible with instructions for further action: an invoice for payment and the manner in which the goods will be received.
Each of the auction houses has its own payment policy for the won lots. All auction houses accept bank transfers, most of them accept credit card payments. In the near future you will find detailed information for each case in the section "Auction information" on the page of the auction catalog and the lot.
Shipment of the won lot depends on its size. Small items can be delivered by post. Larger lots are sent by courier. Employees of the auction houses will offer you a wide range to choose from.
