Gelatin silver publicity portrait, signed and inscribed, ‘For Dr T, Stay Happy always, Billie Holiday’.



The recipient was a New Jersey doctor and jazz fanatic who frequented New York and Philadelphia jazz clubs, amassing an impressive collection of personally inscribed photographs of his favourite artists, which he then hung on the walls of his Burlington, NJ, consulting rooms.



The image by an unknown photographer for Associated Booking Corp., New York, c.1940, 255 x 204 mm; accompanied by a letter of provenance from Dr. T’s nephew and a certificate of authenticity from Roger Epperson.
