Paris : Jean Hugues, 1961.Superbe exemplaire de tête avec les 13 eaux-fortes et la suite de 6 eaux-fortes refusées et signées, ainsi que 5 eaux-fortes supplémentaires, dans une sobre reliure de Paul Bonet. Le 24 janvier 1966, deux semaines après la mort de Giacometti, Michel Leiris décrit, dans son Journal, la génèse de l'une de leurs plus belles collaborations : "la pièce qui, 53 bis, quai des Grands-Augustins, est en principe considérée comme mon « bureau ». J’ai dit, dans Fibrilles, de quoi elle fut le décor au cours de l’épisode qui constitue la partie centrale de ce livre : décision d’absorber ma provision de phénorbital, puis pièce où j’allai me reposer sitôt rentré de l’hôpital Claude-Bernard. J’ajoute qu’elle est maintenant devenue celle où Alberto grava (à une exception près, la figure d’Anubis) les eaux-fortes qui illustrent Vivantes cendres, innommées : divers détails de cette pièce (notamment le plafond dont, me reposant lors de mon retour, je regardai les moulures et le luminaire central), mes portraits assis et couché". Tirage limité à 100 exemplaires sur vélin de Rives, celui-ci l'un des 25 de tête (n°1) avec suite de six gravures non retenues pour l'illustration du livre, signées. L'exemplaire est monogrammé par l'éditeur et signé par l'artiste et l'auteur à la justification. 13 eaux-fortes originales d'Alberto Giacometti, dont le frontispice. Comme annoncé à la justification, l'exemplaire comprend, reliée in fine, une suite de 6 eaux-fortes originales non retenues, justifiées 1/25 et signées au crayon par l'artiste. L'exemplaire est en outre enrichi de 5 eaux-fortes non retenues, différentes des précédentes ; les planches sont légendées et monogrammées au crayon par l'éditeur, et montées sous passepartout. Ces dernières eaux-fortes sont absentes de Lust (éd. 1991). Reliure signée de Paul Bonet, datée 1963 : maroquin gris, s'incorportant au fond de la peau, une bande verticale centrale et de chaque côté deux rectangles sont mosaïqués de maroquin vert, conjointement à la bande centrale, deux autres, l'un de box noir, l'autre blanc ; par groupes des petits rectangles de divers gris parsèment l'ensemble, doublures et gardes de daim gris avec fin encadrement de maroquin vert, couverture conservée, tranches dorées sur témoins, chemise, étui (Carnets, n°1409 - seule reliure sur ce livre listée).
