Mitte 18. Jh. Öl/Lw. 63,5 x 76 cm. Unauffällige Rest., doubl. - Provenienz: Aus einem Schleswig-Holsteinischen Herrenhaus. - Italienischer Lanschafts- und Vedutenmaler und Architekt, einer der Hauptmeister europäischer Architektur- und Ruinenmalerei des 18. Jhs. P. erlernte zunächst den Beruf des Bühnenbildners, ab 1711 erhielt er in Rom Unterricht von Benedetto Luti. Neben Gemälden führte er auch zahlreiche Dekorationen für römische Paläste aus. 1755 wurde er Direktor der Accademia di S. Luca. P. war auch Mitglied der französischen Akademie in Rom. Dort lernte ihn der französische Ruinenmaler Hubert Robert kennen, der das Erbe P.s virtuos fortführte. Mus.: Paris (Louvre), New York (Metrop.
