A Roman ring inscribed FIDEM, 4th century
Solid gold finger ring with an oval opening. On the bezel the finely engraved word FIDEM (= loyalty): In a private context it can express, for example, the promise of marital fidelity, but in a public context it can also express loyalty to the ruler. Therefore, corresponding rings also served as gifts from the ruler to deserving officials and soldiers. Inner diameter 1.6 - 2.0 cm. Weight 11.2 g.

Massiver goldener Fingerring mit ovaler Öffnung. Auf der Ringplatte das fein eingravierte Wort FIDEM (= Treue): In privatem Kontext kann es zum Beispiel das eheliche Treueversprechen zum Ausdruck bringen, in öffentlichem Kontext aber auch die Treue zum Herrscher. Somit dienten entsprechende Ringe auch als Geschenke des Herrschers an verdiente Beamte und Soldaten. Innendurchmesser 1.6 - 2 cm. Gewicht 11,2 g.
