Excellent condition of this work, one of the most famous by Grandville, a 19th-century French illustrator, designer and caricaturist. The texts are by Honoré de Balzac, Benjamin Franklin, Jules Janin, Alfred de Musset, Charles Nodier, George Sand, P.-J. Stahl et al and the illustrations are distinguished by their peculiar ability to reproduce human traits in animal faces.

2 volumes, 8vo (270 x 185mm). Frontispiece and 95 plates in first volume, frontispiece and 104 plates in the second (occasional light foxing).
