A magnificent Spanish Visigothic belt buckle, 6th century
Massive oval buckle with grooved pattern. The pin on large rectangular belt plate (dimensions 8.9 x 7.5 cm). Bronze with green patina. The front decorated with polychrome glass inlays and four gold-leafed tesserae. A rectangular field with silver inlay in the centre. Restored. Length 15.8 cm.

Provenance: From the collection of a South German classical philologist, purchased during the 1950s and 1960s. Remaining thereafter in the family estate.

Prächtige Gürtelschnalle, westgotisch, Spanien, 6. Jhdt.
Massive, ovale Schnalle mit Rillenmuster. Der Dorn an großer, rechteckiger Gürtelplatte (Maße 8,9 x 7,5 cm). Bronze mit grüner Patina. Die Vorderseite mit polychromen Glaseinlagen und vier blattgoldbelegten Mosaiksteinchen verziert. Mittig ein rechteckiges Feld mit Silbereinlage. Restauriert. Länge 15,8 cm.

Provenienz: Aus der Sammlung eines süddeutschen Altphilologen, von diesem erworben in den 1950er und 1960er Jahren. Dann weiter in Familienbesitz.
