Majestätischer Löwe in schnellem Lauf, das Maul weit geöffnet. Die Mähne plastisch geschnitzt und durch parallele Kerblinien strukturiert. Rechter Vorderlauf und linker Hinterlauf fehlen, Schwanz abgebrochen. Eindrucksvolle Schnitzarbeit mit alter Patina. Länge 17 cm. Selten!

Provenienz: Aus der Sammlung eines süddeutschen Altphilologen, von diesem erworben in den 1950er und 1960er Jahren. Dann weiter in Familienbesitz.

A large presumably Near Eastern ivory lion, circa 1000 - 500 B.C.
Majestic lion in fast run, mouth wide open. Mane carved in relief and structured by parallel incised lines. Right foreleg and left hind leg missing, tail broken off. Impressive carving with old patina. Length 17 cm. Rare!

Provenance: From a South German private family collection, formed by the father, a classical philologist, in the 1950s and 1960s.
