A Merovingian seax with by-knife and scabbard mounts, 7th century
Large seax in exceptionally fine condition with sturdy, single-edged blade, several shallow fullers under the spine on both sides. Broad, slightly tapered tang. Also includes a group of bronze scabbard fittings, mounted on grey velvet, a by-knife with scabbard fittings and two bronze suspension rings. On a white marble plaque with an old collection label written in French. Length of the seax 64 cm.

Sax mit Beimesser und Beschlägen, merowinigisch, 7. Jhdt.
Großer und außergewöhnlich guter erhaltener Sax mit kräftiger Rückenklinge. Unterhalb des Rückens beidseitig mehrfache schmale Kehlungen. Breite, leicht konische Angel. Dazu eine Gruppe bronzener Scheidenbeschläge, auf grauem Samt montiert, sowie Beimesser mit Scheidenbeschlägen und zwei bronzene Trageringe. Auf Platte aus weißem Marmor mit altem Sammlungsetikett in französischer Sprache. Länge des Sax 64 cm.
