Dazu recherchiertes Material, ein Schreiben Schmidts von 1996, in dem er sich bei einem amerikanischen Sammler für die Übersendung einer Fotokopie der Verleihungsurkunde bedankt, seine Kriegserlebnisse schildert und erklärt wie ihm die Stücke abgenommen wurden. Dazu Schriftverkehr der weiteren Besitzer.
Winfried Schmidt (1915-99), 1935 Eintritt in die Luftwaffe, danach Reserveoffizier, bei Kriegsbeginn bei der 5./JG 77, hier erzielte er am 18.12.39 über der Nordsee seinen 1. Luftsieg, eine Wellington der RAF. Weitere Luftsiege und mehrfache Verwundungen über Frankreich und während der Luftschlacht um England bei der 8./JG 3 "Udet". Ritterkreuz am 18.09.41 nach 19 Luftsiegen und ca. 150 Feindflügen. Am 11.07.41 wurde er bei Luftkämpfen mit russischen Bombern schwer verletzt und war nicht mehr flugfähig, bis Kriegsende diente er ihm Stab der 7. Jagddivision. Am 01.01.44 wurde er zum Hauptmann der Reserve befördert.

The large, double-sided parchment document with a calligraphic national eagle and text, the name "Winfried Schmidt" in hand-cut, gold letters, issued at "Führerhauptquartier, den 18. September 1941", below which Hitler's pantographic signature in ink. Dimensions 44 x 35.7 cm. The folder in chestnut morocco leather with a gold embossed eagle on the front, gold linear ornaments and parchment inserts on the inside, the gold signature "Frieda Thiersch" on the lower right border. Dimensions 45 x 36 cm. The folder scuffed, the double page stained in places.
Includes research material, a letter from Schmidt dated 1996, in which he thanks an American collector for sending him a photocopy of his award document, gives a first-hand account of the war and explains how the various objects were confiscated. Also comes with correspondence from the other owners.
Winfried Schmidt (1915-99), enlisted in the Luftwaffe in 1935, serving thereafter as reserve officer. When war broke out, he joined 5th/JG 77, achieving his first aerial victory on 18 December 1939 over the North Sea, an RAF Wellington. Other aerial victories, suffering several wounds for the 8th/JG 3 "Udet" over France and during the Battle of Britain. Awarded the Knight's Cross on 18 September 1941 after 19 aerial victories and approx. 150 combat flights. He was seriously wounded in aerial combat with Russian bombers on 11 July 1941, rendering him unable to fly. Until the end of the war, he served in the staff of the 7th Jagddivision. Promoted to Hauptmann der Reserve on 1 January 1944.

Each of the auction houses has its own payment policy for the won lots. All auction houses accept bank transfers, most of them accept credit card payments. Shipment of the won lot depends on its size. Small items can be delivered by post. Larger lots are sent by courier. Employees of the auction houses will offer you a wide range to choose from.
