Marie Antoinette (1755 Wien - 1793 Paris) wurde als Erzherzogin Maria Antonia geboren. Ihre Eltern waren Maria Theresia und Kaiser Franz I. Stephan. Marie Antoinette ist im Jahr ihrer Vermählung wiedergegeben. Als Gemahlin des französischen Thronfolgers führte die spätere Königin den traditionellen Titel Dauphine. Nach der Thronbesteigung ihres Gatten als Ludwig XVI. war sie vom 10. Mai 1774 an Königin von Frankreich und Navarra.
Die Hochzeit mit dem Dauphin Louis Auguste, Enkel des französischen Königs Ludwig XV., fand per procurationem am 19. April 1770 in der Wiener Augustinerkirche statt, zwei Tage später trat die Dauphine ihre Brautfahrt nach Versailles an. Die Darstellung sowohl des Erzherzoghuts wie auch (in freier Nachempfindung) eines Bügels der Krone Ludwigs XV., sowie die aufwendige Kleidung und der reiche Schmuck lassen darauf schließen, dass das vorliegende Porträt im direkten Kontext mit der Eheschließung entstand.
Millitz Bildnis Marie Antoinettes scheint sehr populär gewesen, 1771 fertigte der Augsburger Kupferstecher Johann Elias Haid einen Reproduktionsstich nach einem (dem vorliegenden?) Porträt von Millitz Hand, auf dem die Büste der Dauphine identisch (wenngleich spiegelverkehrt) wiedergegeben ist. Die Kleidung Marie Antoinettes ist auf dem Stich jedoch schlichter, der hermelinbesetzte Mantel fehlt.

The information about the auction winners is confidential. The auction winner will receive a direct notification from the auction house responsible with instructions for further action: an invoice for payment and the manner in which the goods will be received.
Each of the auction houses has its own payment policy for the won lots. All auction houses accept bank transfers, most of them accept credit card payments.
