Jouve illustre les descriptions animalières de Colette, dans un livre commandé à l'autrice par le libraire et éditeur suisse Philippe Gonin. Carteret, Illustrés, IV, p. 110 ("un des bons livres de Jouve, très coté").

In-4 (308 x 250 mm). En feuilles, sous couverture rempliée illustrée. Chemise et emboîtage rigides. Édition originale. Tirage limité à 130 exemplaires, celui-ci le n° 72, signé par l'éditeur. Illustré de 75 compositions en noir et en couleurs par Paul Jouve, interprétées en gravure sur bois par J.-L. Perrichon, certaines rehaussées à l'or. Envoi autographe signé de Paul Jouve à Monsieur Auriol : "Perpignan, le 8 mai 1937 (?) en souvenir à Monsieur Auriol, P. Jouve" accompagné d'un petit dessin original à l'encre de Jouve figurant un aigle de profil.
