Zierliche Armbrust in selten schöner Originalerhaltung.
A small German stone bow, circa 1650
Forged and wedged steel bow with very well replaced hemp string (bone sticks as spacers), inserted and riveted forked sight. Iron tiller with suspension ring and hinged gaffle, case with one-finger nut and intact mechanism (new leaf spring), vertical rectangular folding (rear) sight. Functioning trigger with set button, iron trigger guard. Short wooden stock (cracks) decorated with incised lines around the edges and a pattern of dots, on the left side an inlaid bone medallion engraved with a squirrel, at the rear end of the stock an iron pommel (with drilled hole underneath). Forging cracks here and there, traces of hard solder, small dents. Width of bow 33 cm, overall length 47 cm. Comparable weapons crafted by Nuremberg crossbow makers are known to exist.
Delicate crossbow in fine, rare original condition.
