Lot 5 | Kleines Achatgefäß mit Ente, östlicher Mittelmeerraum, 16. - 14. Jhdt. v. Chr.
10 cm langes Gefäß aus rotbraunem, transluzidem Achat in Gestalt einer kleinen, sog. "Sauciere". Auf der Unterseite ein 4,5 cm langer und ca. 8 mm breiter, abgeflachter Steg als Standfläche des ovalen Gefäßes, mit einem im Querschnitt halbrunden Ausguss an einem Ende. Am anderen Ende die Skulptur einer Ente, deren Körper sich eng an das Gefäß anschmiegt und deren Kopf rückwärts gewandt mit dem Schnabel in das Innere des Gefäßes hineinragt. Die gespreitzen Flügel mit präzise dargestelltem Gefieder liegen an den Seiten des Gefäßes an, die Schwanzfedern auf der Unterseite. Die nach vorne gerichteten Füße halten auf der Unterseite einen Fisch. Aus dem östlichen Mittelmeeraum (Griechenland, Levante, Inseln) sind Gefäße bzw. Dosen mit Entendarstellungen aus verschiedenen Materialien bekannt. Eine Sauciere mit ähnlichem zurückgewandten Entenkopf aus Bergkristall wurde in Mykene gefunden und ist wohl ein Import aus dem minoischen Bereich. Geringfügige Abplatzungen am Rand, kleiner Sprung im Ausguss, sonst intakt. Qualitativ ausgesprochen hochwertige Steinschleiferei der ostmediterranen Bronzezeit.
Small agate vessel with duck, Eastern Mediterranean, 15th - 14th century B.C.
10 cm long vessel made of reddish brown translucent agate in the shape of a small, so-called "sauce boat". On the underside a 4.5 cm long and approx. 8 mm wide flattened bar as a base for the oval vessel, with a cross-sectionally semicircular spout at one end. At the other end is a sculpture of a duck with its body hugging the vessel and its head turned backwards with its beak protruding into the interior of the vessel. The pointed wings with precisely depicted plumage rest against the sides of the vessel, the tail feathers on the underside. The forward pointing feet hold a fish on the underside. Vessels or jars depicting ducks made of various materials are known from the Eastern Mediterranean (Greece, Levant, Islands). A "sauce boat" with a similar duck head turned back made of rock crystal was found in Mycenae and is probably an import from the Minoan area. Minor chipping on the rim, small crack in the spout, otherwise intact. High-quality stone carving of the Eastern Mediterranean Bronze Age.
