Further details
"Through the selection of objects that surrounded him, the artist developed an iconographic vocabulary that he kept his whole life, and he staged in his paintings. Trinkets and utensils are his subjects, just as much as live models or animals. Foujita paid particular attention to these objects of little importance, pipe, plate, key or watch. The artist did not impose any hierarchy between them. Glassware found at a flea market, a textile, a cat, a pebble picked up on a trip to Italy or a work of art are all equally important. All of them tell, each in their own way, a part of the artist’s admirations, his love for materials, his fascination for popular art."
