Exemplaire en maroquin rouge de l’époque aux armes du premier livre scientifique consacré aux monuments grecs. C’est lors de son séjour à Rome que l’architecte Le Roy nourrit le dessein d’étudier l’archéologie et les monuments antiques -il se tourne vers la Grèce et Athènes, que ses confrères anglais Stuart et Revett avaient commencé à documenter par des relevés méticuleux. Souhaitant les prendre de vitesse, Le Roy obtient divers sauf-conduits qui lui permettent de traverser l’Empire ottoman, et rejoint Athènes depuis Constantinople. Pendant un an, il étudie et dessine nombre de monuments athéniens, mais aussi au Pirée, à Sparte ou à Corinthe. À son retour en France, ses travaux suscitent l’admiration du comte de Caylus, qui accepte de financer leur publication. Ces Ruines des plus beaux monuments de la Grèce sont donc le premier ouvrage moderne consacré aux antiquités grecques, paru quatre ans avant la première partie des travaux de Stuart et Revett !
Cet exemplaire est revêtu d’un maroquin de l’époque aux armes de la famille Grimod d’Orsay.

Illustré de 60 planches à pleine page gravées par Le Bas et Patte d'après les dessins de Le Roy (large mouillure en moitié inférieure de l’ensemble du volume ; planche XXVI reliée à l’envers). Reliure de l'époque : maroquin rouge aux armes Grimod d’Orsay, triple filet doré en encadrement, dos à nerfs, caissons notamment ornés de croissants et d’étoiles en rappel des armes,roulettes dorées sur les coupes et les contreplats, gardes de papier marbré, tranches dorées (coiffes refaites, accidents et restaurations à un nerf et aux coins, mouillures sur les plats).

First of all, you should register to be able to purchase at auction. The results of the auction are published within a few days after the end of the auction. In the top menu of the site, find the tab "Auctions". Click on it and you will be on the auction catalog page, where you can easily find the category "Results". After opening it, select the desired auction from the list, enter and view the current status of the interested lot.
The information about the auction winners is confidential. The auction winner will receive a direct notification from the auction house responsible with instructions for further action: an invoice for payment and the manner in which the goods will be received.
Each of the auction houses has its own payment policy for the won lots. All auction houses accept bank transfers, most of them accept credit card payments. In the near future you will find detailed information for each case in the section "Auction information" on the page of the auction catalog and the lot.
Shipment of the won lot depends on its size. Small items can be delivered by post. Larger lots are sent by courier. Employees of the auction houses will offer you a wide range to choose from.
