Post lot text
In this self-portrait with blurred contours, as if captured in a movement of the head, Li Yongbin expresses his discovery of video, which deeply effected him. The Faces series is characterised by this search for the fleeting, elusive moment. Li Yongbin's self-portraits are these freeze-frames, in an ascetic search for the all too often dazzling instant. The Faces have been shown in numerous exhibitions such as China Now at the MoMa a in New York in 2004, The Real Thing: Contemporary Art from China at the Tate Liverpool in 2007. Several of his videos were also acquired by the Guy and Myriam Ullens Foundation in 2007.
