Second edition, augmented, richly illustrated and containing the sixth book, of this work which appeared for the first time in 1596 on the military fortification of Bonaiuto Lorini, the first engineer of the Venetian Republic who designed the well-known fortification of Palmanova. The theory and practice of the construction of fortresses and war machines are illustrated here, along with the sixth book which deals mainly with sieges.
6 parts in one volume, folio (345 x 242mm). Title, at the beginning of the first book and at the beginning of the sixth, with a woodcut vignette depicting a cannon with a hoe and spade, engraved portrait of the author on the verso of paper a6 engraved by Wolfgang Kilian, numerous woodcut illustrations in the text, depicting fortification plants, work tools, printer's device on verso of paper 2B4, initials and woodcut headpieces (some soiling, browning and spotting, small traces of worming at the lower margin, some marginal tears). Contemporary vellum, manuscript title on spine (some spots, small losses and some rubbing, binding partially detached from text block). Provenance: some early German ownership notes? on title.

The information about the auction winners is confidential. The auction winner will receive a direct notification from the auction house responsible with instructions for further action: an invoice for payment and the manner in which the goods will be received.
Each of the auction houses has its own payment policy for the won lots. All auction houses accept bank transfers, most of them accept credit card payments. Shipment of the won lot depends on its size. Small items can be delivered by post. Larger lots are sent by courier. Employees of the auction houses will offer you a wide range to choose from.
