The two animals are similarly painted in the fresco of the Marriage of Neptune and Amphitrite, part of the monumental decoration of the Galleria degli Specchi in Palazzo Medici Ricciardi in Florence (O. Ferrari, G. Scavizzi, Luca Giordano. Opera Completa, Naples, 1992, I, p. 27). The important decoration, representing an elaborate allegory of the apotheosis of the Medici family, was executed by the artist between 1682 and 1685.
