Signed "Feininger" and dated 1955 upper left. Study verso: boats, pen and ink, watercolour. Watercolour with pen and ink on handmade paper. Sheet size: 16 x 16 cm. Original colour retained. Remnants of an old mount around the sheet edges verso. Crease. Framed (41 x 36.8 cm).
Fünf Figuren blicken mit großen schwarzen Augen aus dem Bild. Ihre Körper sind mit dem Lineal in schwarzer Tusche umrissen. Im Kontrast zu diesen klaren geometrisch angelegten Formen ist die Ausgestaltung der Körper mit locker gesetzter Aquarellfarbe in Blau und Schwarz gehalten. Die Gesichter - ein Kreuz mit zwei Punkten - strahlen eine kindliche Schlichtheit aus. Hinterfangen ist die Szene von diffusen grünen Farbflecken, die die Figuren dynamisch miteinander verbinden. Mit seinen in den 1950er Jahren entstandenen "Ghosties", die er häufig an seine Freunde und Familie verschenkt, knüpft Feininger an eine Formenwelt an, die er als Illustrator und Zeichner von Karikaturen entwickelt hat. Sind seine frühen Figuren dynamisch und raumbeherrschend, so wirken die späten "Ghosties" eher fragil. Es sind freundliche Geister, denen er hier mit Witz Gestalt gegeben hat und die im Alterswerk des Künstlers einen wichtigen Platz einnehmen.

The results of the auction are published within a few days after the end of the auction. In the top menu of the site, find the tab "Auctions". Click on it and you will be on the auction catalog page, where you can easily find the category "Results". After opening it, select the desired auction from the list, enter and view the current status of the interested lot.
The information about the auction winners is confidential. The auction winner will receive a direct notification from the auction house responsible with instructions for further action: an invoice for payment and the manner in which the goods will be received.
Each of the auction houses has its own payment policy for the won lots. All auction houses accept bank transfers, most of them accept credit card payments. In the near future you will find detailed information for each case in the section "Auction information" on the page of the auction catalog and the lot.
Shipment of the won lot depends on its size. Small items can be delivered by post. Larger lots are sent by courier. Employees of the auction houses will offer you a wide range to choose from.
