MARTIAL D’AUVERGNE, Martial de Paris, dit (1430-1508). LIII. Arrest d’Amours. Aresta Amorum… Le tout diligemment reveu & corrige en une infinite d’endroits outre les precedentes impressions. Rouen : chez Raphaël du Petit Val, 1587.



Rare édition de ce célèbre ouvrage satyrique, où, comme le suggère le titre, un « Parlement d’Amours » rend divers jugements, qui sont autant d’occasions de moquer les comportements badins. Ainsi, le quatrième arrêt est rendu à « une dame [qui] se complaint de son amy, qui l’avoit baisee [embrassée] si rudement, en la tombant, qu’on avoit bien peu voir le bout de sa chemise », le huitième, un « arrest sur le different d’un cordon, donné par l’Amie à l’Amoureux, puis perdu, & trouvé es mains d’un autre Amoureux, & mis en sequestre », ou encore le trentième, où « un ami se plaint de ce que pour servir à sa Dame il a tout despendu, laquelle depuis n’a tenu compte de luy, concluant à ce qu’elle fust condamnée à l’entretenir comme devant ». Cette édition, donnant le texte latin et français est en partie originale, puisqu’elle est la première à porter le nombre d’arrêts à 53. French Vernacular Books, II, n° 36959.



Petit in-8 (110 x 77 mm). Titre-frontispice (manque au coin inférieur droit du feuillet Nn1, avec perte de quelques lettres, et à l’angle inférieur droit du feuillet Rr2, sans perte, quelques salissures et légères rousseurs). Vélin ancien à la Bradel, titre manuscrit au dos.
