Further Details
A BRONZE FIGURE OF APOLLO MUSAGETES, BY MASSIMILIANO SOLDANI-BENZI
Trained in Florence and Rome at the end of the 17th century, Massimiliano Soldani-Benzi (1656-1740) was both heir to the Renaissance tradition and a precursor of Neoclassicism. Like his Apollo Musagetes, many of his works draw on the Antique. The contrapposto position of this model which embodies the canon of beauty of the era, highlights the vigorous musculature as well his remarkably grace.
This bronze is one of twelve models that Massimiliano Soldani-Benzi created for Joseph Johann Adam, Prince of Liechtenstein, based on classical models. Originally intended to be life-size, the small wax models sent to the Prince of Liechtenstein in 1702 were finally cast in 1706.
