La genèse mouvementée du livre est détaillée dans une note explicative d'Aragon en fin d'ouvrage. Songeant depuis plusieurs années à illustrer Les Fleurs du mal, c'est durant l'été 1944 que Matisse livre ses portraits au crayon gras, destinés à être reportés sur la pierre à lithographier. La chaleur ayant fait sécher les dessins, ils sont placés entre des buvards humides durant une nuit et s'étirent d'environ un centimètre, gâtant les proportions et les expressions. Matisse tentera en vain de redessiner les visages en s'appuyant sur les photographies des dessins prises au préalable, et publiera finalement des photolithographies des dessins originaux.
In-4 (286 x 230 mm), broché. Tirage limité à 320 exemplaires sur papier de Rives, tous signés par l'artiste à la justification, celui-ci le n°1. Édition illustrée d'une eau-forte originale d'Henri Matisse en frontispice, tirée sur Chine et contrecollée, de 33 photo-lithos originales et de 69 dessins et ornements gravés sur bois par Théo Schmied. Sous couverture rempliée, spécialement dessinée pour cette édition par Henri Matisse. Chemise rigide.

Click on it and you will be on the auction catalog page, where you can easily find the category "Results". After opening it, select the desired auction from the list, enter and view the current status of the interested lot.
The information about the auction winners is confidential. The auction winner will receive a direct notification from the auction house responsible with instructions for further action: an invoice for payment and the manner in which the goods will be received.
Each of the auction houses has its own payment policy for the won lots. All auction houses accept bank transfers, most of them accept credit card payments. In the near future you will find detailed information for each case in the section "Auction information" on the page of the auction catalog and the lot.
Shipment of the won lot depends on its size. Small items can be delivered by post. Larger lots are sent by courier. Employees of the auction houses will offer you a wide range to choose from.
