Die Befreiung Susannas durch Daniel ("La Justification de Suzanne"). Öl/Leinwand./Leinwand., verso zwei handschriftliche Klebezettel, eines auf arabisch "5000 Lira", das andere auf französisch mit Sammlungsnummer "14" und unleserlicher Bezeichnung der Sammlung.
Dargestellt ist der Moment, in dem Daniel die beiden zum Tode verurteilten Alten dem Volk ausliefert, nachdem er sie der Falschaussage überführen und so Susannas Unschuld beweisen konnte (Daniel,XIII,28-59). Menageot hat dieses Thema auch für sein vielbeachtetes und kontrovers diskutiertes, 1779 im Pariser Salon ausgestelltes Meisterwerk "La Justification de Suzanne" (380 x 370 cm) gewählt, das er zusammen mit dem Gegenstück "La Peste de David" im Auftrag der Benediktinermönche der Abtei von Anchin schuf (heute Douai, Stiftskirche Saint-Pierre). Das vorliegende, bislang unbekannte Gemälde, kann als eigenhändiger Modello gedeutet werden, mit dem Ménageot die großformatige Endfassung in Douai recht genau vorbereitete und nur in einigen Details davon abwich. Alastair Laing kommt aufgrund dieser stilistischen und kompositorischen Übereinstimmungen zu einer Zuschreibung des vorliegenden Bildes an Francois-Guillaume Ménageot, wobei er aber nicht ausschließt, das es sich ebenso um einen eigenhändigen Ricordo des Künstlers handeln könnte (schriftl. Mitteilung, London, 28.12.07 und 29.01.08). Bislang war nur eine vorbereitende Ölskizze Ménageots bekannt (Douai, Museum, 56 x 78 cm), die allerdings im ersten Weltkrieg zerstört wurde (siehe dazu und zur Endfassung das Werkverzeichnis von N. Willk-Brocard, F.-G.Ménageot, 1744-1816, Peintre d'histoire, director de l'Academie de France à Rome, Paris 1978, S.62, Kat.Nr.6 mit weiterführender Literatur). Nach Meinung von Alastair Laing könnte es sich bei dieser Skizze um einen Bozzetto handeln. The information about the auction winners is confidential. The auction winner will receive a direct notification from the auction house responsible with instructions for further action: an invoice for payment and the manner in which the goods will be received.
Each of the auction houses has its own payment policy for the won lots. All auction houses accept bank transfers, most of them accept credit card payments. Shipment of the won lot depends on its size. Small items can be delivered by post. Larger lots are sent by courier. Employees of the auction houses will offer you a wide range to choose from.
