Öl/Lw. 39 x 58 cm. R. u. sign. M. Cammarano. Min. Retuschen. - Italienischer Historien-, Figuren- und Landschaftsmaler. Nach erstem Malunterricht bei seinem Großvater studierte C. ab 1853 an der Akademie Neapel. Bereits 1863 erwarb König Viktor Emanuel II. eines seiner Gemälde. Später war er auch in Florenz, Rom und Venedig tätig, wo er seinen anfangs noch etwas idyllischen, dann sozial engagierten Realismus in Richtung des französischen Impressionismus weiterentwickelte. Von Bedeutung sind auch seine Historiengemälde. 1900 wurde er Professor in Neapel. Mus.: Rom (Gall. Naz. d'Arte Morderna), Neapel (Capodimonte). Lit.: AKL, Thieme-Becker, Bénézit.
