Netsuke of the Daruma made of ivory. JAPAN, Meiji period (1868-1912). Daruma, the founder of Zen Buddhism in Japan, who was originally an Indian priest named Bodhidharma, is a popular good luck charm. He is depicted sitting in meditation, wrapped in his robe which is also pulled over his head. With signature 'Kokoro/Takara' carved on the underside in a cartouche, h. 4 cm.
