Lot 70 | NWA 8741 METEORITE
Estimate value
£ 3 000 – 5 000
Exquisitely prepared slice, polished to a mirror finish on both sides, and showing the characteristic oval and egg-shaped metal nodules. When backlit, this exquisite slice shows scattered translucent honey-yellow pyroxene crystals.

Around 2014, the Tuareg people of north Africa found an odd-looking, football-sized rock deep within the Sahara Desert. Analysis and classification by scientists showed this rock to be a rare type of stony-iron meteorite called a mesosiderite. These meteorites are mixtures of nickel-rich iron and the silicate mineral called pyroxene. Mesosiderite slices of this size and quality are difficult to find.
195 mm x 165 mm x 3 mm (72/3 x 61/2 x 1/8 in.)
300g.
