Lot 10619 | Oberst i.G. Claus Schenk Graf von Stauffenberg - eigenhändig signierter Brief vom 10. Juli 1944
Estimate value
€ 2 000
Juli 1944.
Oberst i.G. Claus Schenk Graf von Stauffenberg – a signed letter, dated 10 July 1944
Juli 1944" and addressed to the "Heerespersonalamt / Abt. 5 [.] Führer-Hauptquartier". Typewritten text on the (tr.) "Deployment of bearers of the Close Combat Clasp in Gold at the weapons academies of the army". Stauffenberg welcomes this suggestion as these (tr.) "battle-tested soldiers" serve a "function as role models that should not be underestimated" and "are ideally suited, on account of their weapons expertise acquired during their front line deployment", however, the BdE recommends, "in agreement with the Heerespersonalamt, that the transfer be for at least 12 months as a shorter deployment period does not (annotated in red) seem reasonable". His personal, unsteady signature in ink "Stauffenberg". Receipt stamp of the Heeres-Personalamtes Abt. 5 of 11 July, numerous processing remarks and the note "z.d.A" (zu den Akten: for filing). With holes punched.
After being seriously wounded on 7 April 1943 in North Africa, when his Kübelwagen was attacked by a British fighter, resulting in him losing one eye and his right hand was destroyed, von Stauffenberg had to learn to write using his left hand, on which he only lost two fingers. From mid-June 1944, he had been Chief of Staff under Befehlshaber des Ersatzheeres Generaloberst Friedrich Fromm and was promoted to Oberst in the General Staff on 1 July 1944.Autograph of historical importance, dated just ten days prior to the assassination attempt on 20 July 1944.
