Lodovico Girolamo Graf Caprara war der Neffe Ottavio Piccolominis. Nach dessen Tod im Jahr 1656 wurde Graf Caprara zum Inhaber des Kürassier-Regiments Alt-Piccolomini. Aus diesem Verband ging das Kürassier-Regiment K7 hervor (von 1745 - 1762 das k.k. Kürassier-Regiment von Schmertzing), das die Tradition der Caprara-Kürassiere fortsetzte.
Der vorliegende Pallasch war Teil der Ausstellung "Salzburger Kontingente im Dienste des Kaisers" im Salzburger Wehrgeschichtlichen Museum 2020.
A pallash for officers of the cuirassiers with signature "Caprara", 1st half of the 18th century
Straight, full blade with flat back and double-edged central point, the base with etched inscriptions "Vivat Ertz Hertzog Joseph" and "Regt á Chevall de Conte Caprara" as well as smith mark in the shape of an imperial orb. Gilt hilt of non-ferrous metal decorated in rich relief, knuckle guard with tendril décor, grip with brown leather cover and brass wire wrap. Brown leather scabbard with embossed vertical ridges on the obverse, brass fittings with rich relief on the reverse and four iron suspension rings. Blade pitted in parts, leather rubbed, fittings with pressure marks, slightly damaged in places, traces of age. Length 97 cm. Extremely rare officer’s weapon.
Count Lodovico Girolamo Caprara was the nephew of Ottavio Piccolomini. After the latter’s death in 1656, Count Caprara became the owner of the Cuirassier Regiment Alt-Piccolomini, from which later originated the Cuirassier Regiment K7 (Imperial and Royal Cuirassier Regiment von Schmertzing from 1745 until 1762), which continued the tradition of the Caprara cuirassiers.
The pallash at hand was displayed in the exhibition "Salzburger Kontingente im Dienste des Kaisers" (tr. "Salzburg military units in the service of the Emperor") at the Salzburg Museum of Military History in 2020.

The information about the auction winners is confidential. The auction winner will receive a direct notification from the auction house responsible with instructions for further action: an invoice for payment and the manner in which the goods will be received.
Each of the auction houses has its own payment policy for the won lots. All auction houses accept bank transfers, most of them accept credit card payments. Shipment of the won lot depends on its size. Small items can be delivered by post. Larger lots are sent by courier. Employees of the auction houses will offer you a wide range to choose from.
