Provenance Charles X, roi de France (1757-1836), à sa belle fille, Marie-Caroline de Bourbon-Siciles, Duchette de Berry (1798-180), puis à sa sœur Thérèse-Christine de Bourbon-Siciles Cristina, impératrice consort du Brésil, à Joao Barbosa Rodrigues (1842-1909), puis par descendance sa veuve d'où acquis par Paulo Campos-Porto (1889-1968), à sa fille Flora de Campos-Porto. Post lot text Notice sur www.christies.com.PANCRACE BESSA, A BRANCH OF BLUE PLATYCHILUM CELSIANUM, GRAPHITE, WATERCOLOUR AND BODYCOLOUR, HEIGHTENED WITH ARABIC GUM, GOLD FRAMING LINES, SIGNEDA pupil of the famous Redouté, Pancrace Bessa produced vellum prints for the Museum of Natural History: 572 watercolours, including the present sheet to illustrate the Herbier général de l'Amateur, published between 1816 and 1827 under the patronage of Charles X. In this work, this branch with blue flowers is described as 'cultivated for thirteen to fourteen years by Mr Cels', the seeds came from New Holland.
