Lot 1384 | Pellar, Hanns. Caféhausszene.
Pellar, Hanns (1886, Vienna - 1971 Wien)
Oil on canvas. 61 x 49cm. Signed and dated lower right: Hanns Pellar Munich 07.so far, only very few early known. This in Munich, the resulting painting shows a cafe scene and is dated 1907. This year, the 21-year-old artist studied as a master student of Franz von Stuck. Pellars of the subsequent conveyor, Otto Stockhausen, referred to those years in retrospect as a "[...] a time of fermentation and Transition for the young artist [...]."
The scene of the elegant couple in an outdoor cafe represents a rather singular phenomenon in the plant Pellars. A fashionably dressed lady with pinned-up hair, and stole turns to her male companion with a monocle on the table in front of you three soft drinks. The place seems to be temporarily abandoned and the back of the now-free basket chair dominates the lower-right half of the image.
The painting is reminiscent in content to the popular Café and tour local scenes of the French Impressionists. It is to be seen as a reference to a summer residence of the artist with his young wife in Paris and Versailles in the same year. On this trip he was supposed to the suggestions made by the art of the French 18. Century receive, should henceforth determine his work.
