Nachdem Rubens 1609 von Erzherzog Albrecht VII. in Brüssel zum Hofmaler ernannt worden war, gehörte es zu seinen Aufgaben, Portraits des Herrscherpaares zu vervielfältigen. Der vorliegende Bildtypus wurde von Rubens und seiner Werkstatt mehrfach in unterschiedlichen Formaten wiederholt. - Provenienz: Robinson, Fisher & Co, London, 12. Mai 1915; durch Erbgang an den vorigen Eigentümer; von diesem vom heutigen Eigentümer erworben. - Flämischer Malerfürst, einer der bedeutendsten Künstler der Kunstgeschichte, stilprägend für eine ganze Epoche. R. begann seine Ausbildung 1592 im Atelier von T. Verhaecht, 1598 wurde er Mitglied der Antwerpener Malergilde. In den folgenden Jahren war er in verschiedenen Städten Italiens umd Spaniens tätig, bevor er, als Künstler bereits berühmt, 1608 nach Antwerpen zurückkehrte. Aufträge europäischer Herrscher führten ihn nach Paris, Spanien und England; er war für seine Patrone auch in diplomatischen Missionen unterwegs. R. betrieb eine sehr produktive Werkstatt, viele Gemälde enstanden in Zusammenarbeit von Meister und Schülern. Mus.: St. Petersburg (Eremitage), Paris (Louvre), Florenz (Uffizien), Madrid (Prado), Wien (Kunsthist. Mus.), London (Nat. Gall.), Berlin (Nat.-Gal.) u.a.

Each of the auction houses has its own payment policy for the won lots. All auction houses accept bank transfers, most of them accept credit card payments.
