PIETER DE WITH, LANDSCAPE WITH HOUSES AND A TOWER, PEN AND BROWN INK

A pupil of Rembrandt in the early 1650s, De With is now recognised as the author of a substantial group of landscape drawings and etchings, to which this sheet is a new addition (P. Schatborn in Old Drawings, New Names. Rembrandt and his Contemporaries, exhib. cat., Amsterdam, Museum Het Rembrandthuis, 2014, nos. 43-46, ill.). Signed examples of his drawing style can be found in the Frits Lugt Collection (inv. 7877) and the Musée des Beaux-Arts, Besançon (inv. D 574; see W. Sumowski, Drawings of the Rembrandt School, X, New York, 1979, nos. 2390, 2392, ill.; and P. Schatborn, Rembrandt and his Circle. Drawings in the Frits Lugt Collection, Bussum and Paris, 2010, I, no. 161, II, ill.). Another very similar landscape is at the British Museum, London, inv. 1910,0212.191 (fig. 1; see Sumowski, op. cit., no. 2402, ill.).

Each of the auction houses has its own payment policy for the won lots. All auction houses accept bank transfers, most of them accept credit card payments. In the near future you will find detailed information for each case in the section "Auction information" on the page of the auction catalog and the lot.
Shipment of the won lot depends on its size. Small items can be delivered by post. Larger lots are sent by courier. Employees of the auction houses will offer you a wide range to choose from.
