A MAGNIFICENT EMPIRE STYLE SAPPHIRE AND DIAMOND PLATINUM TIARA - probably French, ca. 1910 - Platinum (tested) filigree work set with ca. 657 brilliant old-cut, rose-cut, octagonal-cut and brilliant old-cut diamonds of which the middle solitaire ca. 3,71ct TC/SI-P and 15,80ct various cuts W-TC/SI-P and with 29 Sapphires, probably Burma, in antique cut or oval cut ca. 11,50 ct, the central stone ca. 5,80 ct. Weight ca. 61,5 g. With a case by Carrington & Co., London. Display part ca. 18 x 1.5-3.5 cm - Formerly property of a German Noble Family After the beginning of the 19th century, thanks to Empress Josephine, was a heyday for the diadem, the festive headdress experienced a true renaissance at the end of the century. Magnificent works in the style of the French Empire were particularly popular with wealthy women. In addition to a rich set of diamonds, large colored stones were also processed as eye-catchers. Around the turn of the century, the tiara was obligatory at elegant evening parties. And the more important the occasion and the higher the status of the wearer, the more magnificent the choice of headdress was.
