A rare volume printed with Franklin's Passy type. The Marine Society was established in order to improve maritime education and for the relief of indigent ship masters and their families. Francis Childs, the printer of the present volume, purchased a portion of the type used by Benjamin Franklin while at Passy, and employed it when printing the present volume. Rare. According to RBH, the last 1788 edition to appear at auction in 75 years (Parke Bernet, 16 May 1946, lot 168).
