First edition of this treatise on Perfumery written by one of the most famous "noses" of the 17th century who had is emporium in rue des Gravilliers under the banner of the Golden Fleece. Le Parfumeur Royal was conceived as a manual for operators in the sector and describes in great detail the procedures necessary to distill the essences. This copy is embellished with a delightful contemporary possession note from a woman, Julia Cabaret.

12mo (160 x 90mm). Engraved frontispiece depicting the natural sources of perfume extracts, woodcut inititals and headpieces (some light stains and spotting). Contemporary calf binding with gilt title and decorations on spine, marbled endpapers and red edges (upper part of spine worn, joints light cracked). Provenance: "Ce livre appartien à moi Julia Cabaret.." (contemporary ownership inscription)
