Große gewölbte, lederunterlegte Schuppenketten an geometrischen Rosetten.

A crested helmet for enlisted men of the Ducal Oldenburg Land Dragoon Corps, circa 1830
The high body, the front visor and neck guard, comb and four lateral protective bars made of coarse, black lacquered leather (scuffed here and there), smooth brass fittings. A large brass plaque on the front with the Duke's raised, crowned cipher "P". Large, convex chinscales with leather underlay on geometric rosettes. The crest made of black horsehair. A good black leather liner on the inside (scuffed, small cracks in places) and red fabric lining. Signs of age and wear. Extremely rare helmet, modelled on Prussian/Russian helmets.
Established in 1813, the Herzoglich Oldenburgische Dragonerkorps performed military and police duties. The Corps numbered just 62 men. Until 1815, it was spread over numerous small locations. However, in 1815, the entire Corps was transferred to Cloppenburg. After its dissolution in 1817, the Herzoglich Oldenburgische Landdragonerkorps was established instead, which existed until 1867 and only carried out police duties. The Oldenburgische Dragoner-Regiment (No 19), which was established in 1849, took over the military tasks but from the beginning wore iron helmets modelled on those of the Prussian cuirassiers.
