Post lot text ROMEYN DE HOOGHE, ARRIVAL OF A PROCESSION IN CHINA, BLACK CHALK, PEN AND BROWN INK, BROWN AND GREY WASH, PARTLY INCISED, PEN AND BROWN INK, FRAMING LINE This impressive drawing, rich in details and representing the meeting of processions of Chinese and Western (probably Dutch) dignitaries, must be a design for a print, although none have been identified. De Hooghe produced a great number of etchings; some depicting scenes in Asia, such as those illustrating Simon de Vries’s Curieuse aemerkingen der bysondertse Oost en West-Indische verwonderenswaerdige dingen, published in Utrecht in 1682 (M. van Groesen in Romeyn de Hooghe. De verbeelding van de late Gouden Eeuw, exhib. cat., Amsterdam, Universiteit van Amsterdam, 2008, pp. 61-62).
