Tempera und Gold auf Holz. Zwei rücks. Sponki. Feine und detaillierte Darstellung der Kreuzigung des Apostels Petrus. Zur Zeit der Herrschaft des römischen Kaisers Nero wütete in Rom ein Großbrand, für den dieser die Christen verantwortlich machte und schließlich Simon Paulus als christlichen Wortführer zum Tode verurteilte. Die Hinrichtung, die durch Kreuzigung erfolgen sollte, fand an einem Ort statt, der früher als "Neros Zirkus" bezeichnet wurde. Petrus bat darum, mit dem Kopf nach unten gekreuzigt zu werden, da er sich nicht für würdig genug hielt, auf die gleiche Weise wie Jesus zu sterben. Diese neutestamentliche Überlieferung wurde von zahlreichen namhaften Künstler - u. a. Filippino Lippi, Caravaggio, Guido Reni, Michelangelo, Peter Paul Rubens - motivisch aufgegriffen und manigfaltig - u. a. Fresken, Gemälde, Skulpturen, Altäre - umgesetzt. In der Ikonenmalerei jedoch ist diese Darstellung aus dem Leben des Hl. Petrus kaum zu finden und äußerst selten. Kirchenslawisch bez.; 52 cm x 44 cm.
