Börsch-Supan legt sich in seinem Gutachten nicht auf eine genaue Datierung fest, aber sieht in der kleinen hier vorliegenden Arbeit ein Selbstbildnis Catels aus seinen noch jungen Jahren. Der Vergleich mit bekannten Portraits Catels, z.B. einer Arbeit um 1800/05 in Weimar oder einer 1813 in Rom entstandenen Zeichnung von Carl Vogel von Vogelstein legt nahe, dass unser Selbstbildnis in der Fensternische ebenfalls im ersten Jahrzehnt des 19. Jhs. entstanden sein muss.
1801 hielt sich Sohn eines in Berlin ansässigen Hugenottenpaares in Dresden auf und konnte dort die kleinformatigen Arbeiten der Leidener Feinmaler um Gerrit Dou studieren - der Bildaufbau des Selbstportaits in einer Fensternische findet seinen Ursprung in ebendiesen holländische Genrebildern. Auch weitere Elemente wie die mit Putten verzierte Balustrade, die bauchige Vase auf dem Fenstersims oder die Staffelei im Hintergrund verweisen auf Vorbilder der Holländer. Die noch etwas ungelenke Ausarbeitung der Details spricht in diesem Zusammenhang ebenso für eine frühe Arbeit des noch unfertigen Künstlers. Erst 1807 bis 1811 reist Catel über Paris nach Rom und in den Süden Italiens und findet dort zu seinem eigenen Stil.

The results of the auction are published within a few days after the end of the auction. In the top menu of the site, find the tab "Auctions". Click on it and you will be on the auction catalog page, where you can easily find the category "Results". After opening it, select the desired auction from the list, enter and view the current status of the interested lot.
The information about the auction winners is confidential. The auction winner will receive a direct notification from the auction house responsible with instructions for further action: an invoice for payment and the manner in which the goods will be received.
Each of the auction houses has its own payment policy for the won lots. All auction houses accept bank transfers, most of them accept credit card payments. In the near future you will find detailed information for each case in the section "Auction information" on the page of the auction catalog and the lot.
Shipment of the won lot depends on its size. Small items can be delivered by post. Larger lots are sent by courier. Employees of the auction houses will offer you a wide range to choose from.
