Thailand. Chakri dynasty (since 1782). 19. Century

Pigment on hand-woven silk. The blind shows Events from the life of Buddha, as they are especially prevalent in Thailand. At the top is to see how the Prince, later to become the Buddha, cut off the long hair. Including the Prince met on a mold, a green-skinned demon with a Mace. Below the Palace of the Shakya family to see. In the garden of the Queen at the birth of the Prince, as the Tradition tells. At the very bottom of the encounter of the Prince of sickness, old age and death is probably indicated.

Hangings with Jataka are given. In this size, they were sure to find only in the temple. 336x88cm. Condition B. Rubbed.
Provenance:
-Collection Of Prof. Dr. Reinhold Lucius (1880-1966). It was until 1914 in Thailand, among other things, as a University Professor. He founded in the North of Bangkok, a temple, and out of gratitude the Elbe were in these long temp hanging worshipped by an Abbot.
