Superbe et grand dessin original signé de Sempé. "L'aventure américaine" de Sempé évoque avant tout sa longue et fructueuse collaboration avec le New Yorker, mais l'on sait moins qu'il a aussi travaillé pour The New York Times. Au début des années 1980, à la suite de son confrère et ami R.O. Blechman (né en 1930), il réalise plusieurs aquarelles originales pour le quotidien, dont le présent dessin.
En finance, un marché est qualifié de "bear market" quand la tendance des prix est à la baisse ; "bull market" désignant, a contrario, un marhé en hausse. Autrement dit, l'ours, plus "pessimiste", s'attend à une chute de ses actions et préfère vendre au plus tôt ; là où un taureau, plus optimiste et convaincu que la hausse d'un cours va se poursuivre, est plus agressif, et achète en misant sur cette tendance. Ces qualificatifs sont en usage dans ce secteur depuis le début du XVIIIe siècle.
En 1883, à la suite du grand krach boursier de mai 1873 ('Panic of 1873'), la société Mc Loughlin Bros édite un jeu de société "Bulls and Bears", dont les taureaux et les ours éponymes s'affrontent, au milieu de moutons - le reste de la population, non initiée aux mécanismes boursiers.
Aucun doute, ainsi, que le public et le lectorat américain de l'époque, destinataires de cette campagne publicitaire, saisirent immédiatement l'allusion boursière.
Sur sa reproduction publicitaire, la composition était accompagnée du slogan "These times demand The Times".

First of all, you should register to be able to purchase at auction. If the auction house accepts a request, it will participate in the auction. You can view the current status of a bid at any time in your personal account in the "Bids" section.
Auctions are performed by auction houses and each of the auction houses describes their terms of auction. You can see the texts in the section "Auction information".
The results of the auction are published within a few days after the end of the auction. In the top menu of the site, find the tab "Auctions". Click on it and you will be on the auction catalog page, where you can easily find the category "Results". After opening it, select the desired auction from the list, enter and view the current status of the interested lot.
The information about the auction winners is confidential. The auction winner will receive a direct notification from the auction house responsible with instructions for further action: an invoice for payment and the manner in which the goods will be received.
Each of the auction houses has its own payment policy for the won lots. All auction houses accept bank transfers, most of them accept credit card payments. In the near future you will find detailed information for each case in the section "Auction information" on the page of the auction catalog and the lot.
Shipment of the won lot depends on its size. Small items can be delivered by post. Larger lots are sent by courier. Employees of the auction houses will offer you a wide range to choose from.
