Shimaoka Tatsuzô was a Japanese Potter and artisans. He was declared in 1996 as a Living national treasure for the Important Intangible cultural asset "production of ceramics". Among his pupils the German Studio ceramist Gerd Knäpper - provenance: From an old Berlin private collection, purchased in the Pels-Leusden gallery, Berlin, 24.01.1990 on the occasion of an exhibition of Shimaokas works - Minim rubbed, otherwise well preserved in a wooden box with inscription: Kamagawari / chiyû zôgan jomon hiratsubo / signed and sealed Tatsuzô
