"Koordonnanz". Originaltitel
Frühes, großformatiges Hauptwerk Hoenerlohs aus dem Jahr 1990, das in Sujet und Stil bereits vieles von dem zeigt, was sein Oeuvre bis heute bestimmt. Dargestellt ist eine für Hoenerloh charakteristische fiktive, menschenleere Stadtarchitektur in diffusem Licht mit einem Ensemble historischer, neoklassizistischer Gebäude im Stil des 19. Jhs., grisailleartig gemalt vorwiegend in Grautönen. Im Gegensatz zur eingefroren wirkenden Zeitlosigkeit der Architektur stehen jedoch die deutlichen Spuren des Verfalls an den Gebäuden. Ein Initialpunkt für Hoenerlohs Schaffen dürfte sein kurzes Studium 1979 bei Peter Ackermann an der Karlsruher Akademie gewesen sein, der schon vor ihm klassische italienische Motive der Architektur verfremdet hatte. Seit 1980 befasste sich Hoenerloh intensiv mit Kunst- und Architekturgeschichte, hielt sich zu Studien oft in Rom und anderen Städten auf. Mitte der 1980er Jahre fand Hoenerloh zu seinem eigenen Stil und Themenkreis, den er seitdem konsequent weitergeht: ins Surreale gesteigerte und verfremdete Stadtarchitekturvisionen, die trotz gewisser Brüche überzeitlich zu sein scheinen. Ein genauerer Blick zeigt, wie sehr seine Bilder die Grenzen des Plausiblen überschreiten, sowohl architektonisch und städtebaulich als auch in Perspektive, Kolorit und Licht. Sie spiegeln seine Vorliebe und Faszination für historische Baustile wider - von Palladio, Piranesi und Schinkel bis hin zur Berliner und Pariser Stadtarchitektur des 19.
