Travels into Several Remote Nations of the World... by Captain Lemuel Gulliver. London: Benj. Motte, 1726.
First edition one of the most influential works of satire and early science fiction. A mixed set, comprising Teerink’s A edition (vol. I) and B edition (vol. II). The novel follows Lemuel Gulliver, an English surgeon, through a series of extraordinary voyages to fantastical lands—including the miniature world of Lilliput, the giant realm of Brobdingnag, the floating island of Laputa, and the rational society of the Houyhnhnms—each serving as a vehicle for Swift’s sharp critique of British society, politics, science, and human nature. Teerink 289 & 291.

2 volumes, octavo (185 x 116mm). Engraved frontispiece portrait of the author in the second state with vertical chain lines, 6 engraved plates (portrait frontispiece stained and frayed at fore-edge, some thumb-soiling and staining, mostly marginal but heavier in vol. 1, lacking the preliminary leaf A2). 19th-century green half calf over marbled boards by M.A. Richardson of Newcastle, spines lettered in gilt, marbled edges (extremities lightly rubbed). Provenance: Richard Morphew (contemporary ownership inscription and pen trial on title) –Buddle Atkinson (19th-century bookplate) – W.H. Ince (pencil inscription on title of vol. II).
