Chromolithograph on wove paper, 674 x 896mm (to neat line), sheet, 806 x 1095mm.

In 1873, Thomas Moran joined John Wesley Powell on an expedition to the Grand Canyon where he painted this view from the Kaibab Plateau on the north rim. The Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway, which at the time provided the only direct route to the Grand Canyon, published Moran's painting as a chromolithograph as an advertising piece.
